Last weekend, the inaugural S2S Naitanui Academy Camp took place in Karratha, delivered by the partnership between V Swans and the West Coast Eagles. The camp commenced on Friday night and went through to Sunday afternoon, which concluded with a football match at Dampier.
The first ever camp of its kind saw 34 young men and 5 young women aged between (11-17) from all over the Pilbara, come together to learn, grow and develop as better people and better footballers. The young men and women were put through their paces on Saturday morning, which saw each of them complete 'AFL Draft Combine tests', record their scores and then allow them to compare them to the elite level. Some incredible test results, which was fantastic to see. The participants also learnt about the important aspects off the field including; recovery, hydration, strength & conditioning and nutrition.
It was great to have former North Melbourne & West Coast Eagle superstar and now in his new role as WCE Next Generation Academy Coach - Drew Petrie, take the participants through a training session on Saturday afternoon and then head up the coaching reins on the Sunday against former AFL Premiership Player for the Brisbane Lions and current V Swans Roebourne Regional Manager - Beau McDonald.
To all staff who contributed and helped out over the weekend, it was great to see all the participants learn off you all. We look forward to continuing to work with the West Coast Eagles to grow the program but more importantly the participation and talent ID in the Pilbara Region.
